Renewal of St James the Less |
|
We're raising money to transform the Parish Centre and Church. Can you help?
Redevelopment We urgently need to make our spaces more user friendly and accessible. Throughout the week people who live, work or study locally are making do with sub standard facilities. Major refurbishment is underway! But we need you to make it happen.
Restoration St James the Less has a fantastic Grade I listed building. Designed by the Architect GE Street and built in 1861, it is a fine example of Gothic revival architecture. But it is in a poor state. Expert cleaning is needed to restore the interior to its true glory, inspiring people to worship God afresh.
UPDATE
Redevelopment - Different community groups already benefit from the Church & Parish Centre through:
- Hospitality and Respect for homeless and elderly guests who eat together for free regularly at the Open Door Meal
- Play and Chat for toddlers and their parents or carers weekly
- Teaching and Fun for young people and adults at Children's Church, St James and the Ghanaian Fellowship
- Celebrations at birthday parties and anniversaries for local residents of all ages
- Support and Space at counselling, Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous weekly meetings
- Healthy Living at exercise & cooking classes for those who live, work or study in Westminster.
But:
- People with physical disabilities face discrimination - we need to make the building accessible
- Inadequate toilets for over 100 guests at the Open Door Meal - more and accessible toilets need to be built
- Water leaks through roofs and pipes - thorough repairs need to be carried out
- It is often freezing inside - energy efficient effective heating is a must
- Meeting rooms and work space is unsuitable - we need to relocate the office and meeting rooms
- Kitchen is part of the toddler area and has only one serving point - we need to separate it and design 3 different serving areas
